Student ProfileChildren applying to the Shire School need to be able to function in a classroom of six children and two teachers. Although one on one support is provided for academics, students are expected to follow instructions and should not require a large degree of one on one behavioral intervention. The Shire School is an excellent bridge for children who have been in higher support programs but are now ready for more independence. We are also an excellent option for children who are not succeeding in larger programs and need the smaller, slower paced and individualized environment we offer. We recognize that children with autism spectrum disorders often struggle with behaviors related to sensory integration dysfunction, OCD and anxiety. Our program is designed to help address these issues but we are not able to serve children who are dealing with extreme behaviors.
Anti-Discrimination PolicyThe Shire School admits students of any race color, national and the ethnic origin to all the rights privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in its admission or scholarship policies.
